MT.Org
MT.org was purchased from Netrillium web hosting on September 12th, 2003. Over the past 5 years it has evolved a lot and I am now aiming for it to be a professionally presented blog of comment and opinion on a wide range of subjects. I have moved away from the mere diary format that it used to be in order to engage with more interesting subject matter, develop my writing style and practice writing more journalistic content. I also very rarely blogged as it became a pointless and narcissistic task, however I still very much enjoy creating the actual site designs.

MT also houses three of my fanlistings, which I am clinging on to for sentiments sake. They are; Ryan Phillippe (Actor), Buffy Summers & Spike (Relationships) & BtVS 4.10: Hush (Episodes)

What's in a name?
Mechanical Thoughts is a particular phrase that struck me when listening to the Our Lady Peace song 'All My Friends'. The verse goes something like;
"Still they sit alone on a hill,
Their mechanical thoughts have left,
Them out on their own,
Their not buying this"
To me the phrase reflects how I feel about modern society and the people in it. It alludes to the way in which we get taught to think, believe and act in specific ways. These ways tend to become homogenous and considered the norm of society. Society and the pressures of those around us, usually within a capitalist system, lead us to conform to what they want and eventually even our thoughts are not our own anymore. They are manufactured by our external reality, subjective to the environment around us.

This is not how I want to be and I think it's a very negative side effect of our society. To me it is like most people have become the same, like robots, which is why I call it Mechanical Thoughts. Most people have ceased to ask questions about life and meaning; instead they are all too comfortable in their rich lavish world, frowning upon those who act out in certain 'unusual' ways. This blog for me is a place to break out of this mould and for my own sake tackle the questions which I feel are important. You never know maybe it will help break though to some of those machines...
